Frequently Asked Questions

What is hypnosis?

A hypnotic trance is a naturally occurring state, it happens to us all every day. Daydreaming is hypnotic, so is reading a book or watching a movie.

Maybe sometimes you’ve drifted off in your thoughts, while on a long drive or a train journey– suddenly, you are nearly at your destination but you can’t really quite remember the last few miles or so; this is the state of hypnosis.

There is nothing for you to do during the process, you don’t even need to listen to me or
concentrate on what I’m saying; your unconscious will hear everything.

What is hypnotherapy?

The therapy is what is delivered once you are in the natural state of hypnosis, hence hypnotherapy.

Will I tell you all my secrets?

No. You will always be in control, you will rarely need to speak to me at all and certainly not on the first session, if ever.

Is it like being asleep?

You will be in a very relaxed state but you will not be asleep. Everyone’s experience is different but you will hear everything I say, or you might not, whatever you experience is fine, your unconscious mind hears everything. It is actually a highly focused state of attention with your mind and body in a very comfortable place.

What can be treated with hypnotherapy?

Almost any emotional or psychological problem or issue such as phobias, habits, addictions and anxieties can be treated. See the treatments I offer for more info.

I don't think I'll be able to go into hypnosis.

A lot of people assume this to be the case but they are usually the ones that go the deepest, fastest. Anybody can go into a hypnotic trance if they want to, but nobody can against their will.

Will I think I'm a chicken every time the doorbell goes?

Stage or street hypnosis is very different to clinical hypnotherapy. People that you may have seen on stage appear to be controlled only because they have agreed and wanted that to happen.
